Porsche Creates New Graphics Personalization Option

Just when you thought that Porsche had it all in terms of the amount of personalization a customer can have on their car, they kicked things up a notch. Thanks to a new direct printing method by the brand, customers will soon be able to add custom graphics to the exterior of their new cars. To add to a car’s level of uniqueness, owners can choose graphics as personal as their own fingerprints, which can truly make a car a 1 of 1.

“Individuality is very important for Porsche customers. And no design can be more personal than your own fingerprint,”

Direct printing works such that paint is applied to an object via a nozzle automatically and with no overspray, similar to conventional printers seen in homes and offices. Porsche’s version of the technology allows for the control of each individual nozzle, which allows for the application of every detail big and small of a given graphic. It is because of this that complex graphics like a human fingerprint are possible to create in great detail. Following the application of the graphic, the clear coat is applied to the given part of the car and then polished per painting standards.

The fact that Porsche goes to offer a great degree of vehicle personalization via its Exclusive department is something I have always appreciated. For example, a GT3 that has undergone the Exclusive treatment is just worth gazing at for hours compared to an example that has only gone through the regular production line. Not only that, but Exclusive cars have always been known for commanding premiums in the new and used Porsche markets. I have personally seen many Porsches like this, and at first sight, I get the desire to want to take them home without second thought. That is the difference personalization makes in a car. With lots of owners adding aftermarket graphics to their Porsches, I can see this option becoming a very popular one, specially with the limited production cars. This is not the first time that Porsche offers graphics on its cars; 918 owners had the choice of several race-inspired liveries to chose from if they wanted to be one step closer to making their cars unique.

This new option will be available starting next month. Initially, it will only be possible to have the owner’s fingerprint graphic on the hood, with more designs available in the future. As for pricing, the option will cost 7,500 euros plus VAT in Germany(approx. $11,000 CAD), which is a pretty penny. Though only initially available in 992s, it is likely that the option will be available for other models as well. While I personally like cars which are decal-free, it is something that I may consider if I were to get a GT car or limited-production model, which will likely be the cars we will see equipped with the option.

P.S: With the site now having had a makeover, the post layout will be different as well from here on. This post is more or less a preview of that, and you will notice it more on posts that have to do more with announcements from Porsche as well as events that I attend. It will only improve the reading experience. Also, you can look forward to a recap of the North American market launch of the Taycan happening this week.
