The new Boxster and Cayman GTS 4.0 models have proven to be a hit amongst the journalists and press companies that have had a go with the car on roads and the track. Just like the first versions of the 718, Porsche selected Portugal as its setting for the initial press tests, more specifically the Estoril circuit and its surrounding areas. Amongst the well-known Porsche figures present at these tests was Mark Webber, former race driver for Porsche’s long-gone LMP1 team and now a brand ambassador. Asides from hanging out with press journalists and the like, he was also able to demonstrate what he was capable of behind the wheel of the revised 718. In a video uploaded to Porsche’s YouTube channel, Mark takes a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 around the track while pushing it to the limit.

Being that these cars have a manual transmission, Mark shows how quickly he can get those upshifts done, using what seems to be somewhat of a powershifting method. It reminds me of the presenters of Best Motoring, who demonstrated an extraordinary ability to drive manual cars, particularly with how they powershifted. With the Sport Chrono Package, the 718 comes with an auto-rev match feature when being driven in Sport Plus mode Despite that, Mark opts to drive in Sport mode and do the rev-matching himself, and boy, does he have precision and speed. The only way I could describe his rev-matching would be that it is out of this world. After watching this video, I must conclude that it is up there with the best Porsche driving videos of all time.
