2006 Porsche Carrera GT(Canada)

To Porsche aficionados, the Carrera GT is a car that needs no introduction. Conceived by the company following a failed Le Mans project, and during a period of financial difficulties, it proved to be a car of high interest when first displayed as a concept at the Paris Motor Show back in the year 2000. The high interest in the car, followed by healthy profits from the then-new Cayenne SUV was convincing enough for Porsche to green-light production, with the car first being presented in production form at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show. The car was produced between 2003 and 2006(model years 2004-2006 in North America). Though a total of ,1500 cars were planned to be produced, production ended early at 1,270 cars as a result of changing airbag regulations in the United States.

From a driver’s point of view, the Carrera GT proved to be a challenging car to drive, for several reasons. To start, the car lacked stability control, meaning that even the smallest mistake while driving it to its capabilities, be it on the street or on the track, would be enough to spin the car out and lose control. Secondly, the clutch on the car is a tricky one to operate, being a multi-plate carbon ceramic clutch(the first of its kind) and having auto-throttle, requiring no gas while being released. Put the aforementioned factors together with a powerful V10 and RWD powertrain, and you got a car that is very spartan. It is due to all of these reasons that the Carrera GT is considered to be one of the last analogue supercars, if not the last.

The example for sale that is the topic of this article is a very rare 2006 MY car, which was the final model year the car was produced for. In addition to this, it is one of the 31 Canadian-specification cars, which are also difficult to come by. It is not uncommon to see a Carrera GT here in Canada that was imported from the United States, as a big amount of cars were sold there. Furthermore, a search of cars for sale here in North America would display mostly 2005 MY cars with some 2004 MY cars as well. Thus, this is indeed a very rare bird. The car has only covered 18,000 km from new, and has spent its entire life in Ontario, where it was bought new. The dealership listing it for sale is Pfaff Reserve, whose sister dealership, Pfaff Porsche, sold the car new and also serviced the car. This is good in the sense that what you have here is a car that will be in perfect condition mechanically, and free of any troubles. At an asking price of $925,000 CAD it is a very good price that is parallel with the current market values of the Carrera GT. While I personally like the condition of the car as well as the fact that it has been well taken care of and is complete with the luggage set, the Terracotta interior is a deal breaker for me. I feel that it is an interior that was meant to be chosen with Black as the exterior of the car, and the contrast is not very good with the other exterior colour choices such as Fayence Yellow, or GT Silver, despite a lot of launch and press cars with Terracotta interior being shown with the latter. For any exterior colour, Dark Grey interior is the safest to go with, and it goes well with every colour in the Carrera GTs colour palette. In all, this is a very unique example for sale, at an exceptional price, but you really have to be someone that likes the Terracotta interior.
