After closing its production factories for a little over a month due to the pandemic, Porsche is finally ready to get things up and running again. With approval from the Works Council and Health Management Department, measures have been taken in order to ensure the safety of employees so that full production could again take place at the Zuffenhausen and Leipzig factories.
“The restart is an important signal – for our employees as well as for our customers. We have monitored and analysed the situation very carefully right from the start and flexibly adapted processes. Now is the right time to look forward with optimism and to resume work – subject to special precautions,” says Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG.
To ensure that the reopening plan is a success, many measures are being taken with employees. This includes protective equipment, maintaining physical distances, and following appropriate conduct with each other. Through these measures, Porsche is hoping that its production lines can run efficiently and smoothly again as soon as possible. Despite vehicle production resuming, Porsche still observes the priority that are the front line workers and hospitals. And so, money donations to local hospitals and food banks will continue, with a €5 million increase in donation budget.
“It will take a great deal of effort to get the economic and social system moving again. Everyone must make a contribution to this.It is important to have a positive fundamental attitude. Every crisis also offers opportunities. And we want to make the most of them.,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG
Porsche closed both its factories on March 21st as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, initially for a period of 2 weeks. Though it had hoped to get production up and running sooner, disturbances in its supply chain system made it impossible to do so. Additionally, company executives were ordered to work from home, with their meetings instead being held as online conferences. A travel ban was also imposed on those who would travel for work, which will still be in place. With the airline industry facing a significant fallout due to the outbreak, it may be a while before a lift is placed on this ban.
